Berwick Record Office on the Move

July 1st 2016
Berwick Record Office will be operating from a new location from 6th July, but regular users won’t have far to go as the new facilities will be in the Walkergate Building – just a few metres along from its current premises on Walkergate in Berwick.

The Berwick based branch of Northumberland County Archive Service holds records relating to the former Borough of Berwick Upon Tweed which extended from Berwick, south to Ellingham, west to Ingram and north to Carham on the River Tweed. The records it holds include Berwick's Borough records dating from the 16th century, business, court and estate records, non-conformist church records and records of former District Councils. In addition the Office also holds a variety of sources useful for people tracing their family history in North Northumberland and elsewhere including some Scottish sources.

The Record Office will be open between 9.30am - 1pm and 2pm – 5pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and visitors wishing to consult original records are advised to book at least 24 hours in advance and call ahead to discuss their requirements. Advance book is not required for family historians but they are still advised to check in advance that the records will be available to them. The telephone number and email address remain unchanged: 01289 301865
