café and shop - A warm welcome and a tasty menu

A warm welcome and a tasty menu

With so much to do, you'll be gagging for a cuppa!
Comforting to know you can rely on our stunning contemporary café.

We can promise you a warm welcome and a tasty menu. In the good old days, all a miner had to sustain him throughout the day was his ‘bait’: cold tea and a jam sandwich.

Well there’s not a jam sandwich in sight now but you can still have a splodge of the sticky stuff with a delicious home made scone while looking out onto the pit yard if that’s what you fancy. You can wash it down with a choice of coffees, cold drinks or you can have the tea - steaming hot in a pot… unless you’d prefer to swig it cold!

If you would like something hot to sustain you during your visit, baked potatoes and panninis are always popular, but our home-made soups go down a treat too and offer great value for money.

Make sure you visit our shop

Mining memorabilia, books, toys, gifts. You'll want some sort of souvenir of your visit. And the shop is a mine of ideas. Many at pocket money prices so you'll keep coming back with a smile. It even has copies of some of the paintings by the Ashington Group of Painters, and copies of the Pitman Painters book by William Feaver which inspired the hugely successful play - unique to Woodhorn!
