Sunday 4 December for Crafty Christmas for Woodhorn - November 25th 2011

Despite the mild weather of late, there is no doubt that Christmas is coming, so staff at Woodhorn have been busy preparing for another great Christmas Fayre at the Northumberland museum.

The fayre which takes place on Sunday 4 December in the Workshop Galleries promises to offer all kinds of gorgeous gifts for family and friends. As well as the regular favourites including jewellery, candles, cards, smellies, tasty seasonal treats to tantalise the taste buds and more, this year sees the opportunity to paint your own pottery too.

“Decorating a piece of pottery,” explained Liz Ritson from Woodhorn, “is great fun, and gives you the chance to make something truly unique for someone special. If you’ve wondered what to give grandma that’s just a bit different, this could be the answer. And if your youngsters don’t always appreciate shopping trips, a bit of craft activity that can be turned into a worthwhile pressie might just make the day fun for everyone.”

And there are more hands-on activities available too!

“Why not make the most of your visit by joining in our lantern making workshop and parade,” said Liz. “It takes place from 10.30am to 2pm on a drop in basis and is suitable for all the family. There is a small charge for each lantern made depending on the size and you can take your lantern away after the workshop. But why not wait until later in the afternoon so that you can join in our magical lantern parade.

“The Lantern Parade takes place as dusk draws in at 4pm when we will walk across the historic Woodhorn site and up through the museum accompanied by a Northumbrian Piper. It will last approximately 20 minutes and then we will offer seasonal refreshments including mulled wine and mince pies.”

And no Christmas Fayre at Woodhorn would be complete without Santa’s biggest fan Mrs Claus. Children can join her between 12 noon and 2pm to make some seasonal decorations.
