Goodies for Christmas - October 27th 2011
If you are looking for something a little out of the ordinary for someone special this Christmas, why not consider something different from Woodhorn.
Of course we've got lots of books and dvds on the area and its history together with a selection of original and reproduction miners lamps, but we also have unique products that can only be obtained at Woodhorn.
Prints of paintings by the Ashington Group now famous through the award winning play Pitmen Painters, are unique to Woodhorn. There are 80 or so to choose from with everything from underground scenes to Saturday Night at the Club. Although some are available as posters, most are printed to order so don't leave it to the last minute - have a look at the form now. And how about a copy of the original Pitmen Painters book by William Feaver to go with it.
Maybe you'd prefer one of our limited edition items which were produced as part of a 
prestigious national Museumaker project, which brought together museum collections and contemporary artists. The Coal Bowl is a stunning black glazed ceramic bowl in the shape of an upturned miner’s helmet with a hand gilded interior. Measuring 26 cm from front peak to back, 21 cm across and 14.5 cm high, it retails at £60 (+postage and packing).
The Soot Storms are hand blown glass domes containing a unique ceramic miner, with sea coal from the North East coast taking the place of the traditional "snow". The globe is mounted on a black ceramic mount and measures 15cm high and 12 cm across. Retails at £60 (+postage and packing).
If you are looking for smaller stocking fillers, how about a teatowel with an entertaining print taken direct from the archives, maybe a bag designed by local student Bridie Bloor, or one of our popular Woodhorn mugs with the John Coatsworth image.
