Great British Railway Journeys on TV 23 January 2012 - January 20th 2012
The programme highlighted below was broadcast on 23 January 2012. You can catch it again on BBC iPlayer until 10 February. Find it here.
Everyone at Woodhorn will be tuned to the TV next Monday evening (23 January 2012) for the popular Great British Railway Journeys programme. Woodhorn and its amazing collection of paintings by the Ashington Group – affectionately known now as the Pitmen Painters – will feature in this edition of the series.
The Collection was the focus of a visit by the production team and its well known presenter, Michael Portillo last July when they chatted to William Feaver, the man behind the original book which inspired the now famous play.
Keith Merrin Director of Woodhorn is looking forward to seeing the programme.
“We are lucky to work with these fascinating paintings every day, but we never tire of sharing them with others. Seeing them on screen gives them new life and raises awareness of this collection. And of course, William Feaver has such insight into the paintings and the painters themselves having become such a close friend with the artists in later years.”
The main Ashington Group Collection is on permanent display at Woodhorn and is open to the public Wednesday – Sunday all year round.
