New Archives Based Workshops
New for Autumn 2011 - archive-based workshops for pupils of all ages.
Depending on the day of your trip, pupils can use the Study Centre and/or visit one of our Strong Rooms for a behind-the-scenes experience of the Archives. Your group can then take part in a number of workshops, covering themes from mining to fishing life. We can also develop bespoke archive workshops on a theme of your choice, for example the history of your school or local area.
Available workshops
Investigate Industry with the Delavals (Autumn Term only)
Visit the Seaton Sluice Hiring Fair and find yourself an 18th-century job. Would you like to be eating stewed mutton in the servants' quarters at the Hall, or hewing coal down Hartley pit?
Pupils will focus on one industry in small groups before sharing their findings with the rest of the class - and trying to recruit them to the business!
This workshop accompanies the Autumn exhibition 'A Cut Above: Delve into the Delaval Archives'.
