Scratch the Surface
15th Feburary - 23rd Feburary 2014
Over the course of 3 months, over 1,000 children rolled up their sleeves, picked up their paintbrush and created art inspired by the Ashington Group Painters.
Immersing themselves in the collection, inhabiting dark corners of coal mine displays and experiencing the hard life of miners, children dug deep to produce outstanding artwork.
The new work was displayed during the February half term in 2014 and was accompanied by an artist led activity between 12noon and 3pm. The pop up Ashington Group Hut encouraged visitors to have a go at creating their own masterpiece.
