A Cut Above: Delve into the Delaval Archives
10th September 2011 - 8th January 2012
Delve in to the Delaval Archives at Woodhorn..
For this exhibition visitors were cordially invited to travel back in time to attend the opening of the new harbour at Seaton Sluice on March 20th, 1764. Visitors were invited to meet some fascinating characters and explore this historic event through the perspectives of the rich, poor and in between; from the flamboyant Sir Francis Blake Delaval through to the destitute little Alice. The exhibition explained what life was like for these 18th century Northumbrians and discovered the roles they played within the Delaval Estate at the start of the Industrial Revolution.
Working Lives is a Heritage Lottery funded project that is allowing us to increase access to some of the wonderfully rich estate collections held by Northumberland Archives.
