7 May Date for Working Lives Symposium - April 4th 2011

For anyone interested in finding out more about the work of the Northumberland Archives at Woodhorn, there’s a great opportunity coming up in early May.

A symposium is to be held on Saturday 7 May to look at some of the interesting information uncovered during the Working Lives project. Thanks to significant funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund staff and volunteers have been able to spend many hours listing and delving into papers and documents of a variety of families and organisations. This event will highlight some of the fascinating facts and remarkable finds as well as explaining about the techniques employed.

Sue Wood is Head of Collections at Woodhorn. “It gives us a great deal of satisfaction to be able to share some of our findings and to explain how we work. There’s a lot of painstaking research and organisation goes in to making collections of documents accessible to the public, and I think many people will find it really interesting.”

Some of the topics covered will include the records of Lord Crewe’s Charity, the St. Paul & Butler Families of Ewart Park, Bamburgh Castle Hospital as well as engaging youngsters with the archives and the use of digital technology.

The event at Woodhorn begins at 10am and closes at 5pm. Places are free but limited so need to be booked either by phoning 01670 528025 or emailing slittlefear@woodhorn.org.uk
