Access and Dogs
All visitors to Woodhorn will find a visit rewarding with almost all of the buildings open to the public fully accessible: only one or two places in the old colliery buildings are a little more challenging.
Visitors are welcome to borrow one of three wheelchairs or a motorised scooter during their visit, and staff are happy to discuss any special requirements in advance of a visit.
Please note that the Dark Side guided tours are only suitable for able bodied visitors.
If you would like more detailed access information about Woodhorn, you can download our full access statement here.
Dogs at Woodhorn
Assistance dogs are welcome at Woodhorn, but family pets are not allowed in the fenced museum area - sorry. If you would like to understand why dogs are not allowed, please read our policy here.
It would be best to leave your dog at home if possible as Woodhorn's car park does not offer any shade.
BRICK DINOS Exhibition: Early Bird Quiet Visits
Early Birds Quiet Visits enables families with children who have an Autism Spectrum Condition to come along and enjoy our Brick Dinos Exhibition without the hustle and bustle of the general public.
Taking place on the last Sunday of each month (February – May 2017), BRICK DINOS will open its doors at 9.00am and remain available exclusively to pre-booked visitors until 10.00am to allow families the opportunity to fully explore the exhibition and its interactives. Staff will alert families a few minutes before the exhibition opens to the general public at 10.00am, at which point all are welcome to stay and explore the rest of the museum site for free.
Anyone can come along, but we do ask that everyone respects the need for some people to have a quieter experience and these early sessions have been designed for children affected by autism that make the normal noise of the museum challenging.
Advance booking for these sessions is essential. Normal exhibition admission charges apply.
Please telephone 01670 624455 or email to book or if you have any queries or special requirements.
