In 2002, one of our major depositors, the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne, received a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant of £68,048 to increase access to the important collection of records owned by the Society. The then County Archives Service was a partner to this project which saw the bringing together of records held by the County Archive Service and by the Society at The Black Gate, Newcastle upon Tyne – these records are all now housed at Woodhorn. This funding also enabled the re-cataloguing of the collection and digitisation of sample material. Textual descriptions of the records and some digital images can be viewed in our electronic catalogue.
