Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office

image_221The Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office was established in 1980 as a branch of the then Northumberland County Archives Service. It holds records relating to the former Borough of Berwick-upon-Tweed  which extended from Berwick, south to Ellingham, west to Ingram and north to Carham on the River Tweed. The records held in the Berwick office include:

  • Berwick's Borough records dating from the 16th century
  • Business records
  • Court records
  • Estate records
  • Non-conformist church records
  • records of former District Councils

In addition the Record Office holds various other sources that will help users tracing their family history in North Northumberland and elsewhere.  These include some Scottish sources.

Berwick Record Office will be moving to a new home and so will be closing in its current location on 8th June. A modified service will resume on 17th June at a new location in Berwick. Read more here.

PLEASE NOTE: Anyone wishing to consult original documents must contact the office in advance to ensure they can be made available.
