Open Ocean Judges

November 22nd 2017
Judges Announced for Open Exhibition
Organisers of Woodhorn Museum’s first open art exhibition are thrilled to announce that Julie Milne, Chief Curator of Art Galleries for Tyne and Wear Museums and Archives, and Narbi Price, winner of the Contemporary British Painting Prize 2017 will work alongside Liz Ritson, Learning and Programmes Manager from Woodhorn Charitable Trust, as judges to make the final selection of works to feature in Open: Ocean.
The panel of judges will select the final works for inclusion in the exhibition and will award prizes of £250 for the overall winner plus two highly commended prizes of £50 each.
Woodhorn Museum’s spring programme will be celebrating the coastline and the region’s maritime heritage. Open: Ocean is open to interpretation by the artist. Each artist may submit up to three works for consideration.
“We are very excited to have secured the support of such respected and knowledgeable experts for our judging panel,” explained Woodhorn Charitable Trust’s Chief Executive, Rowan Brown. “Julie Milne has a wealth of experience and expertise in her professional capacity as Chief Curator, and we are thrilled that this year’s Contemporary British Painting Prize winner Narbi Price, is able to bring his practical understanding and artistic appreciation to the table. From our own team, Liz Ritson has led an award winning Public Programme at Woodhorn Museum over the past 9 years.
“Open: Ocean has already received a lot of interest from artists across the North East, but we know that there are still more talented people out there both amateur and professional, and this is a wonderful opportunity for them to put their work before both the judges and the general public.”
Any would-be artists only have until 4th December to register their interest for the exhibition which will run from 10th February – 7th May 2018 at Woodhorn Museum.
Anyone interested in submitting work should email wow@woodhorn.org.uk as soon as possible. Full details plus terms and conditions for the exhibition can be found on Woodhorn’s website: www.experiencewoodhorn.com
